Be a Buddha for One Day
Anyone who spends time in deep practice eventually encounters the trap of trying to recreate the quiet bliss of a past retreat. Yet the plain, unglamorous moments of daily life are where practice actually matures.
We know to let our paths unfold naturally. But when we find ourselves weighed down by solemn striving—or exhausted by an idealized standard of spiritual maturity—even the advice to lighten up can feel impossible. When you've been taking your inner life so seriously for so long, you might realize you don't even remember how to play.
That's where this simple game comes in. It doesn't ask you to become cheerful or unburdened. It just lets you choose a task so that you can maintain a connection to practice—one you can do in 2 or 3 minutes while the deeper process takes care of itself. And it reminds us that even in the small moments, we are still Buddhas.
